DUAL AND DOWNHILL FINALSAUG 26–27

Anne-Caroline Chausson and Brian Lopes won the World Cup Dual finals in Leysin (Switzerland) in August 2000. This marked the end of a remarkable year. Lopes won this title with ease, as it was her seventh win in eight World Cup Dual event. Lopes’ final run was just as disappointing as the title decision. Lopes won the final with a decisive win thanks to Michael Deldycke, a newcomer. Cedric Joch beat Peter Joch in consolation, giving Cedric third place for the day and a second overall for 2015. Joch finished with fourth. Wade Bootes, the World Champion, crashed out just before reaching the final four. However, he finished third overall for the year.
Anne-Carolines’ win was just as surprising as that of Lopes. At the second World Cup Dual event of the year, she won her first World Cup race. She has won this event almost as often as the downhill. A-C had, reportedly, already won the title by the time Leysin arrived. The cherry on top was Tara Llanes’ win in the finals. Just moments earlier, Sari Jorgenson defeated Lisa Sher in consolation rounds, giving Sari a 3rd place and Lisa a 4th.

DOWNHILLFINALS

Cedric and Anne-Caroline Chausson won the 2000 World Cup Downhill Finals in Leysin (Switzerland). This was Gracia’s first downhill World Cup win since 1998. It was business as usual for Anne-Caroline.

This event did not affect the World Cup downhill series title chases 2000. Nicolas Vouilloz, who reportedly had problems on his final run at the top of the hill and ended up finishing second here, had won the year-end title. Chausson was also in contention.

The downhill race was shortened to 3.9km due to heavy rains on the morning. More rain continued throughout the day.

Anne-Carolines’ finals performance was particularly impressive, as Leigh Donovan finished 40 seconds behind the flying French champion. The rest of the women finished less than a minute behind Chausson.

American men did not make it to the podium. Myles Rockwell, the world champion, did not complete his final run due to difficulty on the course. Brian Lopes, the perennial downhill champion, did not finish his final run this year due to difficulty on course. This was a decision that seemed to have paid off considering his success in the dual-slalom events.

Next, the UCI will move around Lake Geneva to host the cross-country finals. The Word Cup XC sereis will conclude in the first week September.
